Notes

SFF.90 was started in Berkeley just before Francis left for Paris. He brought the rolled canvas with him, completing the painting shortly after his arrival in October 1950.

Notations on some black-and-white photographs in the artist's hand indicate the painting was in Georges Duthuit's collection, but it was only on loan to him for a brief period of time.
